"Silk top" is on almost every topper listing. Almost nobody explains what it actually means.
Here is the plain-English version: what the silk layer is, why it changes how your part looks, and the handful of words you'll see on every product page.

So what is a silk top?
A silk top topper has a base made of two layers. The hair is knotted into the bottom layer. On top sits a thin, skin-toned silk layer. The knots end up hidden between the two.
When you part your hair, you don't see knots or mesh. You see a smooth surface the color of skin, with hair coming out of it. That's the whole trick, and it's why silk top is the base people choose when the part is what bothers them.
"A silk top doesn't add hair. It hides how the hair is attached."

The words you'll see on every topper page
Base
The panel that sits on your scalp and holds the hair. Its size decides how much of your head the topper covers.
Silk top
A two-layer base with a skin-toned silk layer on top. Knots are hidden, so the part looks like scalp.
Lace
A single fine mesh. Light and cool, but knots can show at the part.
Monofilament (mono)
A thin see-through material. Looks good from a distance, knots can be visible up close.
Density
How much hair is on the base. For thinning hair, light to medium usually blends best.
Clip-in
The topper attaches with small snap clips that grip your own hair. No glue, no tape.
Part area
The section of the base you can part in. On a silk top, it's the silk area.
Who a silk top is for
A silk top makes sense if:
- ✓You wear a center or side part most days
- ✓Your hair is blonde, gray or light brown, where knots show more
- ✓You want to stop checking your part in every mirror
- ✓You'd rather have a topper that looks like scalp up close than one that's slightly lighter

Is a silk top topper made of silk?
The base has a silk layer on top. The hair itself isn't silk. The silk is there to hide the knots and look like skin.
Is a silk top heavier than lace?
Slightly, because it has two layers. On a topper that only covers the top of your head, the difference is small.
Can I part a silk top anywhere?
Anywhere inside the silk area. Check the size of that area before you buy if you like to switch your part.
